Elk Shoal farm was originally a hog farm. The Gambrel style barn was built in 1942 by our Great Grandfather. All of the lumber for the barn was cut and milled right here on the property and the barn was used to house animals and store hay until 2020 when we decided to fully restore it by giving it new life and new purpose.
After 18 years in the corporate world and working in the banking industry, we decided to shift gears in order to make more time for family and with a vision and a dream we began the renovations in October of 2020, Our goal was to maintain as much of the original structure and integrity as possible while also incorporating functionality and style that would create a beautiful, welcoming space for hosting weddings and events. We are so excited to share our little slice of heaven with all of you.
We wanted our brides to have a special oasis all to themselves where they could relax and get ready for their special day., so we purchased a separate building that already had power, great bones, and could be renovated but was also large enough to meet all of our needs which included the need for restrooms. We added the same matching shiplap siding and built all new doors to match the barn. A deck, steps and lots of other pretty touches were completed. Our little cottage is sure to make the day as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
Since the barn already had a rustic chic vibe, we thought it would be perfect to designate some of the space that was formerly used as stalls to be converted into a Groom's Quarters. We added a leather couch, Smart TV, gaming options, and a custom built, high-top whiskey barrel table. A large wall mounted clock was hung front and center, to be sure they'd make it to their ceremonies on time!
